The Nativity Story
I went to the nativity story with one of my best friends, jj ! (jocelyn jenks) We saw it and there were some interesting points that were not mentioned in the Bible.
1.) They showed mary falling into the water and almost drowning. (??? was that really
happening???)
2.) The 3rd king was resisant to go until he finally met up w/ the other 2 kings.
3.) The kings and shepards didnt bow down to Jesus... they just stood there.
Whoever created this movie needs to work on the Biblical application that we can get by this story. For me I couldnt figure it out.!.!
This story was very clear and then it went to muddy water...
My Rating: 7.9 out of 10 stars

Much of the "tradition" surrounding the story of the nativity is just that -- tradition. To make the movie feature length and cinematically appealing, the screenwriters obviously felt the need to fictionalize some of the account -- such as Mary nearly drowning. You are right, the Bible contains no such event.
Adding fictional elements to a true account has literary value, but the reader/viewer needs to be aware of which parts are true and which are fictional. Many wonderful novels, such as Ben Hur, Gone with the Wind, and The Scarlet Letter are all fiction stories set in the middle of real historical events. Everyone who reads these stories knows they are fiction. Ben-Hur is subtitled "A Tale of the Christ". But when the line between what is fictional and what is historical is blurred, the fictional becomes accepted as historical fact and/or the truth gets diluted as myth.
Other nativity fiction:
The "wise men" arrived on the scene 2 years after the birth of Christ. The shepherds, angels, and manger were long gone by then!
The Bible never indicates how many "wise men" there were. Who knows where the number 3 came from!?!
I haven't seen the movie. I'm sure it contains a lot more "traditional" elements. If God uses it to bring some to saving faith in Christ, then praise God. He's been known to use all kinds of odd things to reveal Himself and His word, including a talking donkey! I'd be more impressed, however if the movie makers had done a better job indicating the difference between what was Biblically accurate in their version, and where they took artistic license.
Amen!!! I agree fully!!! I knew about that number of wisemen and the time of the arival... One thing i forgot to say was it is a long way to bethlehem in the movie!!! Tlk to me later
BTW, what did Jocelyn think of the movie?
